Preparing for a show is exciting, but it can also feel overwhelming when you’re juggling stock, displays, marketing and travel all at once.

The good news? A little preparation goes a long way.

Whether you’re a first-time exhibitor or a seasoned show regular, here’s our ultimate pre-event checklist to help you feel organised, confident and ready to make the most of your Country Living Fair experience.

1. Review Your Stand Presentation

Your stand is your shop window and first impressions count.

Before the show, think carefully about:

  • Your overall branding and visual style

  • Product layout and height variation

  • Clear signage and pricing

  • Lighting and ambience

  • How customers will move around your space

Visitors are drawn to beautifully styled, welcoming stands that tell a story.

Top Tip:

Do a practice setup at home beforehand and take photos. Seeing your stand through a customer’s eyes can help highlight areas to improve.

2. Check Your Stock Levels Carefully

One of the biggest challenges at shows is getting the balance right between too much and too little stock.

Think about:

  • Bestsellers from previous events

  • Lower-priced impulse purchases

  • Gift-ready items

  • Packaging and wrapping supplies

  • Backup stock stored neatly under tables

It’s also worth bringing:

  • Extension leads

  • Chargers

  • Spare labels

  • Tape, scissors and stationery

  • Emergency repair materials

A “show survival kit” can save a lot of stress on the day.

3. Prepare Your Payment Systems

Customers expect quick and easy payment options.

Before the show:

  • Test your card reader

  • Fully charge all devices

  • Bring charging cables and power banks

  • Ensure mobile payment systems are updated

  • Have a small float of cash available

Don’t forget to check signal or WiFi requirements ahead of time if relevant.

4. Refresh Your Marketing Materials

Shows are a fantastic opportunity to build long-term customer relationships  not just same-day sales.

Make sure you have:

  • Business cards

  • Flyers or postcards

  • Branded packaging

  • Social media handles clearly displayed

  • QR codes linking to your website or Instagram

  • Mailing list sign-up options

Visitors may not buy immediately, but they often return later if they can easily find you again.

5. Promote Your Attendance Before the Event

Start talking about the show early.

Use your:

  • Instagram

  • Facebook

  • Email newsletters

  • Website homepage

  • Stories and reels

Share sneak peeks of:

  • Products you’re bringing

  • New launches

  • Stand styling

  • Packing preparations

  • Exclusive show offers

The more excitement you build beforehand, the more likely customers are to seek you out at the event.

6. Plan for Customer Conversations

Country Living customers love meeting the makers behind the brands.

Be ready to talk about:

  • How your products are made

  • Your inspiration

  • Materials and processes

  • Sustainability practices

  • Your business story

Personal connection is often what turns browsers into loyal customers.

7. Dress Comfortably and Pace Yourself

Show days are long and physically demanding.

Remember to:

  • Wear comfortable shoes

  • Bring snacks and water

  • Take short breaks where possible

  • Keep valuables secure

  • Pack layers for changing temperatures

Looking after yourself is just as important as looking after your stand.

8. Capture Content During the Show

Country Living Fairs are perfect for social media content.

Take photos and videos of:

  • Your stand setup

  • Busy customer moments

  • Product displays

  • Fellow exhibitors

  • Behind-the-scenes snippets

This content is incredibly valuable for future marketing and helps extend the life of the event beyond the show itself.

9. Follow Up After the Event

The show doesn’t end when you pack down.

After the event:

  • Thank customers online

  • Follow up with wholesale or trade contacts

  • Add new mailing list subscribers

  • Review bestselling products

  • Note lessons for future shows

Every event is an opportunity to learn, refine and grow your business.
