lichen-moon-vase-3
Lichen moon vase #3

The Korean moon vase is an ancient ceramic form, newly voiced in handmade stoneware by Brooker Ceramics. Copper crystals drift across the black surface, catching light in unexpected ways. This is a piece made for the table that refuses to stay there. It earns its place on display with equal confidence. Functional vessel meets sculptural object. No two are alike. You're bringing home a centuries-old form, remade by hand, for your space.

Form & Character

The moon vase draws from Korean ceramic tradition, named for its rounded, contemplative form that evokes the full moon rising. Here, that sphere is translated into stoneware, thrown by hand with careful intention. The copper crystal surface plays across the bulbous body, shifting as light moves around it. This isn't delicate. It has weight, presence, the kind of form that anchors a room without demanding noise. Hold it, and you feel the thickness in the walls, the deliberate craftsmanship beneath every curve. It's a vase that carries its history in its shape.

Made for the Table. Built for Display.

Pour water into it for flowers, and it transforms your table into something more considered. The copper crystal catches candlelight. Your guests notice it without it trying. But this vase doesn't live at the table. Move it to a shelf, to a windowsill, and it holds the room differently. No flowers needed. It becomes pure form. The kind of piece that earns its place in your home through presence alone. Whether it holds blooms or stands empty, whether it's surrounded by place settings or solitude, this Korean moon vase works both sides of that line without apology.

Handcrafted in Oxfordshire

Every one of these vases is thrown by hand in Brooker Ceramics' Oxfordshire studio. The maker shapes the stoneware, building the walls, creating the form that suggests moonlight. The firing brings the transformation. Copper oxides interact with clay, revealing the crystal surface. Each firing is unique. The kiln doesn't repeat itself. Which is why no two Korean moon vases are exactly the same. You're not buying a mass-produced object. You're acquiring a single act of making. A moment when a person and clay and fire met. The variations in colour and surface are proof of that encounter.

Quality & Care

The surface is fully waterproof and food-safe. Fired to high temperature, the stoneware becomes dense and naturally chip-resistant. Built to handle daily life. Fill it with water for flowers without concern. You can live with this piece. Hand-wash it to preserve the finish and keep the surface bright through years of use. The copper crystals and black won't fade. This isn't decorative ware that must be hidden away. It's made for the table, for real use, for becoming part of your home.

About Brooker Ceramics

Brooker Ceramics is a handcrafted ceramics studio in Oxfordshire, making functional ware and sculptural pieces that live in real homes.
