Carpenter and Cloth
Carpenter & Cloth is a holistic brand founded and nurtured by myself, Emily James (clothier), and my partner, Danny Fleck (carpenter). Using traditional techniques to work the materials from our landscape in mid-wales, we create clothing and shelter designed to connect people to the land in which we all live, and the stories that unite us.
My clothing range is predominantly made from wool selected from neighbouring farms and woven at our local woollen mills. My clothing is designed to be worn everyday, by men and women, to be comfortable and effortless. I design clothing that enhances my own experience of rural life; I design for warmth and practicality and grounding, celebrating the natural properties of wool.
I believe clothes can hold great meaning; by telling stories through clothing that connect people, culture and landscape we can experience a great richness in our everyday lives, which has been lost in the mass production of textiles. I want my clothing to feel not just like an alternative to mass production and fast fashion, but also an antidote. All of my garments come with an abridged story of their provenance, which are published in more detail on my blog, on the Carpenter and Cloth website.
