Flowers of the Sea
Hi, I’m Michelle and I live on the beautiful Isle of Wight. I started pressing flowers as a hobby, then last summer I tried pressing seaweed and was inspired by their stunning colours, textures, and shapes. I love walking on the beach, it’s my happy place, so seaweed foraging felt a natural thing to do. Encouraged by my family and friends, I started my business, Flowers of the Sea, earlier this year, and sell a range of prints, greeting cards and mini-prints crafted from my original hand-pressed seaweed.
I only use seaweed I have sustainably foraged by hand along the island’s shoreline and in rock pools at low tide. I take care to select only detached drift seaweed that I feel will preserve well and then I press this using traditional methods to preserve its beauty.
Being an Island girl, I prefer to work with local suppliers where I can and try to minimise environmental impact as much as possible. Hence, my prints, greeting cards and mini-prints are all printed on the Isle of Wight using FSC materials.
Flowers of the Sea celebrates the beauty of seaweed and I hope my products encourage others to see seaweed in a new light!
