Fruitbat Textiles

I'm Charlotte, the maker behind Fruitbat Textiles, a small textile studio based in Somerset. I create handwoven textiles inspired by the British countryside, changing seasons and the colours and textures I see around me.

I work primarily with 100% British wool, much of which I hand dye before weaving on traditional floor looms. I love the slow, tactile process of turning yarn into cloth, carefully considering colour, texture and pattern as each piece develops. My scarves and smaller textile accessories are designed to be useful, beautiful and made to last.

Sustainability is an important part of how I work. Rather than constantly creating new materials, I'm increasingly looking at what I already have in the studio, finding ways to use every part of it. Leftover yarn, warp ends and woven remnants are transformed into smaller pieces, accessories and textile art, giving materials from previous collections new life.

My work is rooted in a belief that buying fewer, well made things can be more meaningful than buying more. I want each piece to carry a sense of the landscape and the hands that made it, while celebrating British wool, traditional craftsmanship and a slower approach to making.
