Naked Clay Ceramics
Naked Clay Ceramics is a collection of tactile handmade stoneware and porcelain tableware.
I discovered the joy of handmade mugs around 25 years ago. There is nothing like the quiet connection of eating and drinking from something made with love by another person.
My own range of tableware, Naked Clay Ceramics was designed by me in 2017. Inspired by the colours and textures of nature, I wanted to celebrate the feel of natural, unglazed fired earth, bringing an opportunity to pause and savour a quiet moment in the hustle of life.
After a lot of testing and sampling of designs I settled on black stoneware. Not a clay often used by potters, it can be messy and difficult to work with. I love it because it is earthy, robust and warm but with a little texture for that tactile connection.
Everything is made by me, by hand, in small batches in my studio in Bedfordshire. Each piece is individually made using a combination of hand building and slip casting and is finished with little or no glaze on the outside. Made to be held and used, each piece offers the natural feel of naked fired clay in your hands. A moment for connection and grounding, appreciation and joy.
