Robyn Coetzee Glass Designs

I create decorative fused glass artwork for the home, inspired by nature and my lifelong love of birds. I founded my business in 2002 with the aim of making joyful, uplifting pieces that bring warmth and character to everyday living. Every piece is lovingly handcrafted in my home studio in Bristol.

Birds are my greatest muse. I am endlessly captivated by their song, silhouettes and individual personalities. Through my work, I explore their distinctive features and quiet charm.

Each piece I make is a true labour of love – and patience. Glass is a wonderfully temperamental medium, involving many stages and careful decision making. I begin by cutting and cleaning each tiny glass component, before layering, positioning and decorating with glass powders. A single piece may go through up to four kiln firings. Once fired, every object is individually cold-worked by hand, through polishing, sanding, grinding or drilling.

My love of birds began in childhood and continues today as I observe them in my garden and the wider UK landscape. For me, birds evoke tranquillity and a gentle humour. These are the feelings I hope to capture in my work, whether I am creating a wearable piece or something decorative for the home.
