Distinctive Dutch design

'Gezelligheid' in the UK

Forget about Scandinavian Design, forget about the Danish Hygge concept or the Swedish Lagom style. The Dutch are here, and we're all about Dutch Design and Gezelligheid. The English translation of gezelligheid is: cosiness, but that does not quite capture the full experience. Gezelligheid is about comfort, warmth, feeling at home, and the Dutch go to great lengths to make their home gezellig.

The Dutch are renowned for their design as well as for their flower business. Our designs are known to be functional, fun and colourful. Lowlands Design incorporates both: vases, bowls and floral vessels, combined with the power of beautiful Dutch Design. Dutch Design excels in its use of materials, colours and trend setting, state-of-the-art designs.

The Lowlands

Why Lowlands Design? The Netherlands are well known as the Lowlands of Holland, as much of the nation is famously below sea level. In many languages, the country is referred to as the low countries. In French the nation is called: les Pays-Bas, in English: The nether lands, and even in Dutch we often call ourselves: de lage landen. All meaning: the low countries.

Lowlands Design

We sell strong Dutch brands that both make or design their own products. Brands and businesses that care deeply about the origin and style of their products. Companies that value the artisan crafts of handmade objects that get passed down generations. For instance: DutZ glassware is handmade and mouth blown by master glassblowers in workshops in Eastern Europe.

The founder

Lowlands Design was founded by Allon Leever who was born in Amsterdam and raised in the famous flower village of Aalsmeer amidst the tulip fields and the biggest flower auction in the world. As a long time London dweller, he has traded between the Netherlands and the UK for many years.

He believes that objects in a home or interior should have meaning, quality and should be aesthetically pleasing, So Allon set himself the task to bring the beauty of Dutch Design to the British public.
