The Story
Joan was my mum’s older sister. Joan worked at the local Royal Ordnance Factory during WW2. The girls often wrote messages and put them inside the munition's boxes. One soldier wrote back to Joan and on a visit to Withnell, he brought the gift of a peach. My mum was amazed as she had never seen a peach before. She wrapped it in a cloth and kept it as long as possible. It was delicious when she ate it! A classic work style dress is very fitting to remember Joan.
