A fabulous complete set of six vintage Wedgwood American Clipper Ship porcelain plaques, each depicting one of the celebrated nineteenth-century clipper ships that once crossed the world's oceans.

The collection comprises:

Sea Witch • Great Republic • Hurricane • Dashing Wave • Golden West • Dreadnought

Each porcelain plaque reproduces an historic maritime painting and is presented in its original figured maple frame, with a gilt inner slip and individual brass title plaque beneath. The reverse of each retains its original Wedgwood information plaque, giving details of the vessel depicted and the source of the original painting.

Produced by Wedgwood in England during the late 1970s/early 1980s, the series brings together six of the great American clipper ships of the nineteenth century. Several of the original paintings reproduced for the collection are identified as being held by important American maritime collections and museums.

What makes this set particularly special is that all six have remained together, complete with their matching frames, brass name plaques and historical information to the reverse. Hung together, they make a wonderfully striking collection, particularly arranged in two rows of three as shown in our styled photograph.

A lovely collection for a maritime enthusiast, Wedgwood collector or simply someone looking for an unusual group of vintage pictures with a story behind them. They would sit equally happily in a traditional country house, study or library, or provide warmth and character to a more pared-back interior.
