A Celebration of British Timber and Organic Form
Hand-turned in our Yorkshire workshop, this large wooden decorative art vessel captures the warmth and incredible texture of traditional British timber. The deeply characterful natural edge opening contrasts beautifully with the smooth, sweeping curves of the form, creating a tactile wooden art centrepiece that demands to be touched. Whether you are styling an organic home décor aesthetic or looking for a meaningful hand turned heirloom gift, this sculptured wood piece brings a profound sense of nature indoors.
Every piece begins as a raw, sustainably sourced section of English oak burr. Prized for its dense, chaotic figuring, intricate colour detail and pip detail, this specific piece presented a magnificent natural void at the top. Rather than cutting this away, it was carefully preserved to create a dramatic, organic opening. The vessel was meticulously hand-turned on the lathe and hollowed out from the inside, ensuring the continuous, flowing grain of the burr remains completely uninterrupted on the exterior. It is a genuine piece of artisan woodturning UK that honours both the material and the maker’s process.
Craft & Materials
Material: Sustainably sourced English Oak Burr, renowned for its rich colour and intricate grain patterns.
Finish: Sanded to a smooth, tactile finish and sealed with a premium protective wax to feed the timber and provide a soft, natural sheen.
Process: Carefully hollowed by hand on the lathe to reduce weight and prevent cracking, while maintaining a thick, substantial presence.
Dimensions & Care
Diameter: 240mm
Height: 120mm
Care: Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth. Apply a light coat of high-quality beeswax polish once a year if the wood begins to look dry. Keep away from direct heat sources. Please note: This is a decorative art vessel and is not designed to hold water.
Wood is a natural material. Unique features such as grain patterns, knots, burrs, and minor imperfections are part of the charm of handmade wooden items and are not considered defects. We have photographed this item to show it as accurately as possible.
