"There's nothing better than real post, be it a birthday card, a note or best of all a love letter. Putting pen to paper with time, thought and intention is a beautiful thing, and has stood the test of time for many reasons. In these days of whirring technology and instant messages - a hand written card feels deeply personal, and whats not to love about that?!" Hoopoe in the the Tulips is an illustration that originated from an elaborate 70th birthday for Lily’s Ma. Depicting some of their shared loves and celebrating the seasonal changes of the warmer climes of springtime Spain. The Hoopoe sits in the boughs of an Indian bead tree, a still life scene in the foreground with abundant jugs of hellebore and wayward tulips.
This A6 Card is left blank inside so that you can write, draw or scrawl a message or picture of your choice. Perfect for anniversaries, birthdays or even condolences, these seasonal illustrations lend themselves to nearly every occasion. After multiple sketches, collages and maybe even some laser cut maquettes, Lily creates the final composition in Photoshop. Working in just two colours, she loves working in layers, to create all of the details, and a third colour by placing sections on top of each other. The restricted colour palette lends itself to commercial screen printing, and also stops Lily from getting too carried away. Once a digital file is created, we share it with a local independent printing company, that we have worked with since the early days of LF. Lily loves being able to go and talk to their incredibly helpful team, but also touch all the different types of card and paper stock. When all parties are happy, they are printed in their carbon offset print facility onto 100% recycled card.
These cards are a fairly new addition to our collections, and as of yet have not ventured far. But we hope that as the range grows, that they start getting popped in the post all across the globe. The cards are presented with a Kraft manilla envelope, and presented in a biodegradable cellophane sleeve. All made in the UK. We thought long and hard about how to best to package these greetings cards, and although naked cards are best, we wanted these to arrive in tip-top condition. We just ask you to pop the sleeve in your food compost waste. We make every effort to create responsibly sourced products, please recycle this card in your paper and card recycling once you are finished with it.
