A Tactile Exploration of Natural Mappa Burr and Traditional Twice-Turned Craft
Hand-turned in our Yorkshire workshop, this striking wooden decorative vessel showcases the intricate, pale figuring of natural mappa burr. The smooth, enclosed form curves upwards to reveal a captivating natural live edge opening, creating a luxury wooden centrepiece that demands to be picked up and touched. Whether you are curating an organic home décor aesthetic or seeking a truly meaningful handmade gift for a special occasion, this unique piece of wooden art brings a profound sense of nature indoors.
This particular art vessel was created using the traditional 'twice-turned' method to ensure its lasting beauty and structural integrity. It began its journey as a raw, 'green' (wet) piece of sustainably sourced mappa burr. After being rough-turned into a basic shape, it was carefully set aside to slowly air-dry and acclimatise for several months. Once the wood had fully settled and released its natural tensions, it was remounted on the lathe and meticulously hollowed out to its final, refined shape. This patient process honours the material, resulting in a highly stable piece of artisan woodturning UK that will be treasured for generations.
Craft & Materials

Finish: Sanded to a tactile, silky finish and sealed with a premium wax polish to protect the timber while enhancing the natural depth of the grain.
Process: Traditionally twice-turned from a green burr over a period of months to ensure maximum stability, preventing warping and guaranteeing a flawless final enclosed shape.
