A bowl for everyday use
A good bowl is one of the most-used things in any kitchen. This one is made for exactly that. Reach for it for cereal or porridge in the morning, a helping of soup or noodles at lunch, a few nibbles with a drink, or a dip to share, and it slips straight into daily use. It is the kind of honest, useful piece that quietly makes an ordinary meal feel a little more considered. Because it is made to be handled and used rather than kept for best, it tends to become one of those pieces you find yourself reaching for again and again.
Thrown and finished by hand in Oxfordshire
Every bowl is thrown, trimmed and finished by hand in our Oxfordshire studio. We work in small batches on the wheel, shaping and finishing each one individually rather than pressing out identical copies, so no two are ever exactly the same, and each piece is unique. A bowl looks simple, but the curve of the wall, the width of the rim and the trimmed foot all have to be judged by hand to get a piece that feels balanced rather than heavy or flat. Doing every stage in-house is how we hold that standard rather than relying on shortcuts that speed things up but flatten the character out of the finished piece.
Shaped to feel right in the hand
So much of how a bowl feels comes down to details you notice only when you use it. The rim is finished to feel smooth against your lip and clean under a spoon, the walls are kept an even thickness so it holds warmth without becoming too hot to hold, and the foot is trimmed so it sits steady on the table and is pleasant to lift. It is judged to feel balanced whether it is full or nearly empty. These are small things, but together they are the difference between a bowl you reach for daily and one that stays in the cupboard.
As good on the table as it is on display
Good tableware earns its place twice over. In use, this bowl is a genuine everyday workhorse for food of all kinds. At rest, it is a piece worth looking at, so it can sit out on the side or on display rather than being hidden away, and it stacks neatly with others if you are slowly building a set. It pairs naturally with the rest of the range, and it looks just as at home on its own. Wherever it ends up, it brings a little of the handmade into an ordinary daily routine, which is exactly what we think functional ceramics should do.
Made to last, easy to live with
Handmade does not mean high-maintenance. This bowl is made from stoneware, fired to a high temperature so the clay body becomes dense, hard-wearing and non-porous. That gives it real durability for daily use and a chip-resistant surface that stands up to being washed, stacked and used again day after day. It is dishwasher safe, microwave safe and food safe, so you can use it exactly as you would any everyday bowl, and everything is tested thoroughly before it leaves the studio so you can reach for it without a second thought.
A handmade gift that gets used
Because every bowl is made individually rather than mass-produced, it makes a genuinely good gift. It carries the mark of the person who made it, from the curve of the wall to the weight in the hand and the small signs of a process that cannot be rushed. Whether it is for someone setting up a home, a lover of considered tableware, or simply someone who appreciates things made with care, a bowl like this is a thoughtful thing to give, and an easy thing to treat yourself to as well.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
