A sunny mountain day, cold, crisp and too beautiful to leave unpainted.
I painted this view on location during a stay at an Hotel in San Leonardo. Beyond the golden slopes and dark wooded valley, snow-covered peaks stood against a brilliant blue sky. I wanted to capture that contrast: the warmth of the sunshine on the land and the cold of the mountains beyond.
Painted from life in oils, the expressive brushwork records the view as I experienced it that day.
For anyone who loves escaping to the mountains, this original painting brings a little of that feeling home. The open space, the clear air and the pleasure of stopping to take it all in.
