Fine silver is made up of 99.9% pure silver. Due to its purity it is soft and prone to miss-shape and scratch.
Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% of other metals, most commonly copper. These additional metals give it its strength and durability. However, it is these metals in the alloy, particularly copper, that can cause it to tarnish over time.
Argentium silver is a fairly new alloy, invented in the 1990's by a Silversmith. It replaces some of the copper in traditional sterling silver with the element germanium, and has a higher content of silver. It is typically available in three grades 93.5%, 94% and 96% pure silver. Argentium silver has a brighter, whiter appearance than sterling silver. The addition of germanium give it durability and most importantly tarnish resistance. The composition of this silver alloy also make it more suitable for people with allergies - hypoallergenic

Hallmarking
All Mooi jewellery pieces exceeding the legal hallmarking weight threshold are hallmarked at the Sheffield Assay Office.
A Mooi hallmark may include:
- Mooi Sponsor's Mark – my registered maker's mark, ‘MI’ in two joined circles.
- Fineness Mark – 925 for sterling silver, 375 for 9ct gold or 750 for 18ct gold.
- Assay Office Mark – the Sheffield Assay Office mark.
Many of my handmade silver pieces weigh below the legal hallmarking threshold and are therefore exempt from compulsory hallmarking under the Hallmarking Act 1973. These smaller pieces can be hallmarked on request, subject to an additional charge. Please contact me for current pricing and timescales.
A hallmark provides an independent guarantee of the precious metal content of an item and confirms that it meets the required legal standard of fineness. For more guidance on hallmarking, please click here

- Ring size

Product Quality & Care
Every piece of Mooi jewellery is individually handmade and finished to a high standard. Because each piece is made by hand, slight variations in shape, texture, colour and finish may occur. These natural variations are part of what makes handmade jewellery unique.
Colours may also appear slightly different depending on photography and individual screen settings.
Every item is carefully quality checked before dispatch and leaves my studio in perfect condition. If you are unsure about the size, shape, colour or any other aspect of a piece, please contact me before placing your order.
Caring for your jewellery
Sterling silver naturally tarnishes over time when exposed to air and moisture. Regularly polishing your jewellery with a soft silver polishing cloth will help maintain its appearance.
I recommend avoiding silver dips, as these can remove intentional antique or oxidised finishes.
Many Mooi designs are delicate, so please store your jewellery in its individual gift box or pouch when not being worn to help prevent scratching, tangling and tarnishing.
To help protect your jewellery:
- Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, moisturisers and other chemicals.
- Remove jewellery before bathing, swimming, cleaning or exercising.
- Remove jewellery before sleeping.
- Check chains, links and clasps regularly to ensure they remain secure.
