Handcrafted stoneware, made in Oxfordshire
A sculptural vase is more than a vessel. It's a form that holds space in a room, drawing the eye and settling the gaze. Thrown by hand from stoneware in our Oxfordshire studio, this vase carries the confidence of classical proportion and the warmth of the maker's hand. Whether filled with fresh flowers or standing empty, it commands attention through its form alone. Each handmade vase brings a considered presence to interior spaces where functional ware and sculpture meet.
Form & Character
The sculptural form of this stoneware vase draws on classical pottery tradition. A silhouette you might recognize from ancient collections or museum galleries. The body sits solid and present, with a profile that shifts as you move around it. The lip curves inward, and the proportions feel intentional, masculine almost. The weight in your hands speaks to the dense, fired clay body. When light catches the surface, the stoneware reveals texture beneath whatever finish it wears. This is a piece that anchors a shelf, commands a mantel, or earns space on its own against a wall.
Made for the table, built for display
A vase sits at the intersection of function and form. You might fill yours with seasonal flowers or branches, letting the vessel complete the arrangement. Or you might leave it empty, letting the form speak for itself. A sculptural object that holds the room without needing anything inside. The stoneware clay body ensures it sits heavy and grounded on your shelf, your mantel, your table. It's the kind of piece you notice in the morning and again at dusk, when light moves across the room. A considered object that earns its place through presence alone.
Handcrafted in Oxfordshire
This vase is thrown by hand on the wheel in our Oxfordshire studio. The maker shapes the clay with intention, building a form that's both deliberate and responsive to the material. Each piece is finished by hand: the lip trimmed, the base refined, the surface prepared for firing. We work in small batches, which means no two vases are exactly alike. You'll notice subtle variations in weight, curve, and surface. These aren't imperfections, but evidence of the handmade process. Brooker Ceramics is built on transparent craft: honest making rooted in the studio's values.
Quality & care
This stoneware vase is fired to Cone 6, a heatwork level that transforms the clay body into something dense, hard-wearing and non-porous. The glaze is food-safe and chip-resistant. If you fill your vase with water for flowers, you can trust it to hold without leaking. For cleaning, wash by hand and dry well. The stoneware clay body, once fired, becomes durable enough for everyday use. Whether your vase holds flowers today or sits empty tomorrow, it's built to last through a lifetime of display and use.
About Brooker Ceramics
Brooker Ceramics is a studio based in Oxfordshire, where we throw functional ware and sculptural ceramics by hand. The work spans tableware, vessels and display pieces, objects designed to live in real homes and earn their place through considered making and honest materials. The studio's YouTube channel has grown to over 25,000 followers who watch the full journey from clay to finished piece. Our philosophy is simple: every object should feel intentional, every surface should tell the story of its making, and craft should remain transparent and rooted in tradition.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
