Cornish art by British contemporary artist Diane Griffiths. The iconic Holywell Bay ‘Gull Rocks’ formation is an easy way to identify this famous Cornish beach based on the north coast of Cornwall. A popular filming location used for the likes of the Poldark TV series, and a beautiful beach for Cornish art and Cornish artists to capture on canvas. This painting captures a bright sunset as the rays explode out of the canvas from behind a rich sun lit cloud. It’s an extravagant but acceptable use of colour in order to emphasise this beautiful sunset, the dappled cloud at the top suggesting the clear blue sky behind the drama. The sun is just about to break through the cloud, which means there’s nothing to do now but stop and watch it set between the rocks and below the horizon.
