A small jug that earns its place
A good small jug is one of those pieces you end up using far more than you expected. Set it on the table with milk or cream for coffee and tea, or keep it by the hob for sauces, dressings and syrups. It is the kind of honest, useful object that quietly makes everyday meals feel a little more considered. Because it is small, it is easy to handle, easy to store and easy to bring out for anything, which is exactly why a jug like this tends to become part of the daily routine rather than sitting unused in a cupboard.
Thrown and finished by hand in Oxfordshire
Every jug is thrown, trimmed and finished by hand in our Oxfordshire studio. We work in small batches on the wheel, shaping and finishing each one individually rather than pressing out identical copies, so no two are ever exactly the same, and each piece is unique. A jug has more going on than it first appears: the body, the handle and the spout all have to work together, and all of it is judged by hand. Doing every stage in-house is how we keep the standard high rather than relying on shortcuts that speed things up but flatten the character out of the finished piece.
Shaped to pour cleanly
The whole point of a jug is the pour, so that is where the care goes. The spout is shaped and finished by hand so it releases cleanly and stops without dribbling down the side, and the handle is set to balance the jug whether it is full or nearly empty. The body is thrown to feel comfortable to pick up and steady to hold, so you can pour with control rather than guesswork. It is a small thing to get right and an obvious thing to get wrong, which is why every spout is checked by hand before a jug leaves the studio.
As useful on the table as in the kitchen
A small jug is genuinely versatile. On the table it pours milk or cream and looks the part next to a pot of coffee or tea. In the kitchen it takes over for sauces, gravy, dressings, syrup or a small pour of oil. It is handy for warming a little milk, holding a single serving, or bringing something to the table without reaching for a bigger vessel. Between jobs it sits happily on display rather than being tucked away, and it pairs naturally with the rest of the range if you are slowly building a set. It is a modest piece, but it is the sort of thing that quietly proves its worth several times a day.
Made to last, easy to live with
Handmade does not mean high-maintenance. Each jug is made from stoneware, fired to a high temperature so the clay body becomes dense, hard-wearing and non-porous. That gives it real durability for everyday use and a chip-resistant surface that stands up to regular washing and handling. It is dishwasher safe, microwave safe and food safe, so you can use it exactly as you would any everyday piece of tableware, and everything is tested thoroughly before it leaves the studio so you can use it without a second thought.
A small handmade gift with real character
Because every jug is made individually rather than mass-produced, it makes a genuinely thoughtful gift. It carries the mark of the person who made it, from the shape of the spout to the weight in the hand and the small signs of a process that cannot be rushed. Whether it is for someone setting up a home, a lover of considered tableware, or simply someone who appreciates things made with care, a small jug like this is an easy piece to give, and an equally good one to treat yourself to.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
