Kingfishers have such a striking presence about them.
Still and focused one moment, then gone in a flash of colour - a brief glimpse that feels almost unreal.
This piece was inspired by that sense of quiet precision, patience and movement. The rich blues and warm tones, balanced against the stillness of the moment, create something both calm and full of life.
The artwork began as a detailed coloured-pencil drawing, built up slowly layer by layer to capture the fine feather detail, subtle colour shifts, and the intensity of the bird’s gaze.
I wanted the finished piece to feel calm yet alive - something that brings a sense of focus and quiet energy into a space, revealing more the closer you look.
Mounted and ready for framing, this print works beautifully in a living room, bedroom, hallway, or study - anywhere you want a connection to the natural world with a touch of colour and presence.
It also makes a thoughtful gift for wildlife lovers, birdwatchers, or anyone drawn to the beauty and precision of nature.
