Handcrafted stoneware, made in Oxfordshire
A mug is one of the most intimate objects in a home. You hold it every morning. Your hand knows its warmth, its weight, the shape of its rim. When it's handmade, thrown from clay and finished in a glaze fired in an electric kiln, that intimacy becomes something deeper. Each piece holds the maker's intention and touch. This mug, thrown and finished by hand in our Oxfordshire studio, is built to serve that role with presence and purpose.
Form & Character
The form speaks for itself. The handle sits at a natural angle, welcoming your grip without drama. The body has a generous curve. Walls taper gradually to a rim that feels resolved in the hand. There's a quietness to this shape; it doesn't demand attention, but it holds the room when placed on display. The glaze catches light differently depending on the angle and the hour, bringing subtle movement to a shelf or table edge. No two pieces are exactly alike; each carries the fingerprints of its making.
Made for the table, built for display
A mug lives at the table. You reach for it with your morning coffee, your afternoon tea, the warm water that carries you through an evening. That functional role is non-negotiable. But in a handmade piece, the line between table and display dissolves. Your mug earns its place on display the same way it earns its place at your side. It earns this through quiet presence and the warmth of hand-thrown form. You might find yourself rotating your collection into new corners of the kitchen, watching how light and surface interact depending on where the mug lives. Each resting place is a small act of curation.
Handcrafted in Oxfordshire
Every mug begins on the wheel in our studio in Oxfordshire. The maker centers the clay, pulls the walls up and out, and shapes the form through a series of movements honed over years of practice. The handle is applied by hand, attached with slip and scored marks that become part of the piece's character. Once the leather-hard stage, the whole piece is finished. It is sanded smooth, checked for balance, and set aside to dry slowly before firing. We work in small batches, so no two pieces are exactly alike. That variation is intentional. Each mug reflects the conditions of its particular moment: the humidity in the studio that day, the precise pressure of the maker's hands, the unique behavior of the clay and glaze in the kiln.
Quality & care
The clay body is stoneware, fired to Cone 6 heatwork in an electric kiln. Cone 6 is a measure of how much thermal energy the kiln achieves. It matters more than the temperature in degrees because different kilns reach the same heatwork in different ways. At Cone 6, stoneware becomes dense, hard-wearing and non-porous. The glaze is food-safe and chip-resistant, built to survive years of morning coffee and dishwasher cycles. You can use it every day without concern. Hand-wash if you prefer to protect the surface, or trust it to the dishwasher. Either way, this mug will earn its keep.
About Brooker Ceramics
Brooker Ceramics is a working studio in Oxfordshire making functional ware and sculptural ceramics by hand. The work spans mugs and jugs and bowls alongside smaller sculptural pieces, each built to last and earn its place in a home. The studio has grown to a community of over 25,000 on YouTube, where the maker shares the process of handthrown work, studio life, and the philosophy of making things by hand in the 21st century. Every piece carries that philosophy: craft transparency, respect for materials, and the belief that handmade objects hold a different kind of presence than industrial alternatives.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
