A plate made for everyday meals
A plate is something you use every single day, so it is worth having one that feels good to eat from. This one is made for exactly that. It gives food room to sit well, it feels substantial without being heavy to carry, and it turns an ordinary meal into something that looks a little more considered. Whether it is breakfast, a main course or something to share, a handmade plate quietly lifts the whole table. It is made to be used and washed and used again, not saved for special occasions, which is exactly how we think good tableware should earn its place.
Thrown and finished by hand in Oxfordshire
Every plate is shaped, trimmed and finished by hand in our Oxfordshire studio. We work in small batches rather than pressing out identical copies, so no two are ever exactly the same, and each piece is unique. A plate is deceptively hard to make well: it has to sit flat, feel even in the hand, and carry a clean, comfortable rim, and all of that is judged by hand. Doing every stage in-house is how we hold that standard rather than relying on shortcuts that speed up production but flatten the character out of the finished piece.
Judged for balance and feel
So much of a good plate is in the parts you feel rather than see. The rim is finished to feel smooth and to frame the food nicely, the surface is judged to sit flat and stable on the table, and the weight is balanced so it is comfortable to carry, pass and stack. The foot is trimmed so it stacks cleanly with others and does not scratch the table, and the size is judged to give a generous meal room without crowding the table. These are small details, but on a piece you handle at every meal they are the difference between a plate you love using and one you only tolerate.
From the table to the wall
Good tableware earns its place twice over. In use, this plate is a genuine everyday piece for meals of every kind. At rest, it is a piece worth looking at, so it can be stood on display on a dresser or a shelf, or even hung on the wall, rather than being shut away. It stacks neatly with others if you are slowly building a set, and it pairs naturally with the rest of the range. Wherever it ends up, it brings a little of the handmade into an ordinary daily routine, which is exactly what we think functional ceramics should do.
Made to last, easy to live with
Handmade does not mean high-maintenance. This plate is made from stoneware, fired to a high temperature so the clay body becomes dense, hard-wearing and non-porous. That gives it real durability for daily use and a chip-resistant surface that stands up to being washed and stacked day after day. It is dishwasher safe, microwave safe and food safe, so you can use it exactly as you would any everyday plate, and everything is tested thoroughly before it leaves the studio so you can use it without a second thought.
A handmade gift that gets used
Because every plate is made individually rather than mass-produced, it makes a genuinely good gift. It carries the mark of the person who made it, from the finish on the rim to the weight in the hand and the small signs of a process that cannot be rushed. Whether it is for someone setting up a home, a lover of considered tableware, or simply someone who appreciates things made with care, a plate like this is a thoughtful thing to give, and an easy thing to treat yourself to as well.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
