Sandstone Dinner Plate, Handmade Stoneware by Brooker Ceramics
A dinner plate that reads as both utility and object. The Sandstone Dinner Plate carries a quiet, considered presence. Its matte surface and darker tonal variation give it a quality you don't often find in mass-made ware. Made by hand in Oxfordshire, each plate is thrown individually, fired to high strength, and finished with a triple-ringed foot that adds both visual rhythm and lasting durability. This is functional ware that deserves to be on display.
Form & Character
A dinner plate is a circle, and a circle settles a room. The Sandstone Plate sits flat and open, inviting the eye to rest on its surface. The triple-ringed foot does more than add strength. It draws the eye downward, creates a rhythm, and holds the piece lightly above the table. There's a weightedness to it, a sense of being held together by thought rather than mass. The matte finish refuses to catch light in an obvious way. Instead, it holds it, creates subtle pools of tone. It's the kind of piece you notice differently every time you set the table.
Made for the Table. Built for Display.
Your dinner plate will live two lives. On the table, it holds your food with practical confidence, made strong enough for everyday use, seasoned with every meal. But this is where it becomes something more. A stack of these plates in an open shelf, or a single plate leaning against the wall, earns its place in how you arrange your room. The darker tones create visual weight. The triple-ringed foot suggests craft, suggests intentionality. Handmade ware doesn't need to hide away in a cabinet. This plate wants to be seen. It anchors a room.
Handcrafted in Oxfordshire
Every plate begins on the potter's wheel in the Brooker Ceramics studio in Oxfordshire. The clay is centered by hand, pulled upward, shaped by intuition and touch. Because of this, no two plates are exactly alike. One surface may sit slightly differently than another. One foot may have a subtle variation in its form. This isn't a flaw. It's a record of the maker's hand. The studio fires each piece to a high temperature in an electric kiln, creating a surface that is dense, durable, and built to last. It's this commitment to handwork, to the honesty of the making process, that defines Brooker Ceramics.
Quality & Care
The surface is food-safe, waterproof, and fired to such high temperature that it becomes dense and chip-resistant. It holds up to everyday use, every wash, every year. Dishwasher safe. Or hand-wash if you prefer. There's something meditative about it. The darker tones can develop a subtle patina over time as oils and use settle into the matte surface, giving each plate its own history. This is not a precious object. It's made to be used, held, loved, and lived with.
About Brooker Ceramics
Brooker Ceramics is a handmade studio in Oxfordshire making functional ware and sculptural ceramics. The work is rooted in the belief that handmade objects bring something irreplaceable to how we live. They slow us down, they tell a story, they connect us to the hand that made them. The studio builds a community of over 25,000 followers on YouTube who watch the process, understand the craft, and choose handmade. Every piece that leaves the studio is made with intention. It's this philosophy that guides every plate, every bowl, every vessel.
Handmade, so there may be variations in shape and glaze.
