A simple piece that keeps the worktop clean
A spoon rest is one of those small pieces that quietly earns its place in a kitchen. Set it beside the hob and it gives your cooking spoon, ladle or spatula somewhere to sit between stirs, so drips and sauce stay off the worktop instead of spreading across it. It is a simple idea, but once you have one you wonder how you managed without it. It keeps the space around the pan tidy while you cook, and it saves a bit of wiping up afterwards. It is exactly the kind of honest, useful object a handmade studio does well.
Made by hand in Oxfordshire
Every spoon rest is made by hand in our Oxfordshire studio. Each one is shaped and finished individually, and we work in small batches rather than pressing out identical copies, so no two are ever exactly the same, and each piece is unique. There is care in the details: the well has to hold a spoon and catch drips, the piece has to sit steady on the worktop, and it has to feel resolved and pleasant to handle. Doing it by hand, in-house, is how we make sure it works properly rather than the flat, thoughtless feel of a mass-produced version.
Shaped for the job
This is a piece shaped around what it is for. The dished surface catches drips and holds a spoon securely, raised grooves keep the spoon lifted clear of any liquid that collects, and a pouring lip lets you tip that away easily so it does not pool. The base is weighted to sit steady on the worktop so it does not slide when you rest a heavy spoon on it. It is the kind of small, considered object that quietly does its job every time you cook, without ever getting in the way.
From the hob to the table
A spoon rest is made to live out on the worktop rather than shut away in a drawer. It sits happily beside the hob within easy reach while you cook, and it is finished well enough to bring to the table for serving too. It works just as well as a small resting place for a teabag, a used spoon or a bottle top, so it earns its keep well beyond the stove. Left out on the side, it looks like a considered piece of kitchenware rather than a bit of plastic, and it pairs naturally with the rest of the range. It is a modest piece, but it is the sort of thing that proves its worth every time you make a meal.
Made to last, easy to clean
Handmade does not mean high-maintenance. Each spoon rest is made from stoneware, fired to a high temperature so the clay body becomes dense, hard-wearing and non-porous. That gives it real durability and a chip-resistant surface that copes with daily use at the hob. It is food safe and dishwasher safe, so it wipes or washes clean in seconds, ready for the next time you cook. Everything is tested thoroughly before it leaves the studio, so it is ready to go straight into daily use in the kitchen.
A useful handmade gift for cooks
Because every spoon rest is made individually rather than mass-produced, it makes a genuinely useful gift, especially for anyone who likes to cook. It carries the mark of the person who made it, from the shaped well to the pouring lip and the small signs of a process that cannot be rushed. Whether it is for a keen cook, someone setting up a kitchen, or simply someone who appreciates a well-made everyday tool, a spoon rest like this is a thoughtful thing to give, and an easy one to treat yourself to.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
