Handcrafted stoneware, made in Oxfordshire
A handmade stoneware vase holds the moment a room changes. It is made to cradle flowers or stand alone as sculptural form, catching light and anchoring your space. Thrown by hand from stoneware and fired to strength in our Oxfordshire studio, each piece brings quiet presence to wherever it rests. The form rises from the clay with character all its own. No two pieces are exactly alike. This is what handmade means. This is Brooker Ceramics.
Form & Character
This vase reads as sculptural form. A tulip-shaped body rises from its base with presence. The form suggests movement. Where straight lines might feel architectural, the gentle curve of this vase feels organic. It is held in mid-gesture. Narrowing slightly at the neck, it has visual lightness despite its weight. In the hand, the form feels substantial and grounded. The walls of the vessel are smooth to the touch, warm with the subtle texture of thrown stoneware. Set on a shelf or surface, it commands attention without demanding it. It stands on its own. It holds space.
Made to display, built to last
Your vase has two lives. Fill it with flowers and it becomes a centerpiece, the blooms dancing against its form. Empty, it is sculpture. It anchors the eye and holds the room. You might place it on your mantelpiece, on a shelf, or at the centre of your table. It earns its place in every setting. Whether it holds water and flowers or stands as pure form, the vase serves your home in both ways. It is both functional and sculptural in its presence alone. The dual nature is what gives it authority in your space. It works in both ways because the form itself is considered.
Handcrafted in Oxfordshire
Each vase is thrown by hand on the potter's wheel in our Oxfordshire studio. The clay is shaped from memory and feel, not templates. No two pieces emerge identical. After throwing, each vase is finished by hand. The rim is refined, the foot is refined, imperfections considered according to the maker's eye. The pieces are then dried slowly to prevent cracking, before being loaded into the kiln for their first fire. This preparation, this care, is what separates handmade from mass-produced. The studio operates in small batches. We make deliberately, in keeping with the rhythm of hand-throwing. You can trace the fingerprints of the maker in the clay itself.
Quality & care
Fired to Cone 6, the stoneware becomes dense and hard-wearing. Cone 6 is a measure of heatwork. It is the combination of time and temperature that matters more than peak temperature alone. At this firing temperature, the clay body matures fully, becoming vitrified and non-porous. The glaze is food-safe and chip-resistant. Your vase can hold water without leaking. It can hold flowers for years. Hand-wash is recommended to preserve the surface. It is built for everyday life and everyday use.
About Brooker Ceramics
Brooker Ceramics is a handmade pottery studio in Oxfordshire. We throw functional ware (mugs, bowls, jugs) and sculptural ceramics. The work is centered on slow making and material honesty. Every piece is thrown by hand and finished by hand. We share our process with a community of over 25,000 on YouTube, where we document the studio work, the firing, the outcomes. The maker's philosophy is that handmade objects carry the maker's hand, and that matters. There is no substitute for time spent learning the material. These vases are proof of that practice.
Please note: as these are handmade objects, they may vary in colour, shape and size from one piece to the next. These variations are not defects. They are celebrated as part of the handmade quality of every piece.
