Walnut Matcha Cup — Handmade Stoneware by Brooker Ceramics
The Walnut Matcha Cup is handmade stoneware for those who think about how they hold things. Thick-walled and handleless, supported by a distinctive tall foot, this angular form works at the table and stands alone on display. It asks nothing of decoration. No ornament, no softness, just honest structure. Dark and considered, it earns its place in your daily ritual or as a quiet sculpture in your home. Made at Brooker Ceramics in Oxfordshire.
Form & Character
This cup reads as architecture. The tall, distinctive foot creates an unexpected lift, a sense of floating above the surface it sits on. Angular lines run through the form, giving it sculptural presence without becoming precious. The thick walls mean weight, substance, a cup that commands respect. No handle demands a specific kind of attention. You cradle it, not grip it. You feel the ceramic's density through your palms, warm and solid. In a room, it anchors a corner of the table or holds its own on a shelf. The form speaks clearly. There is no ambiguity.
Made for the Table. Built for Display.
You might make tea in this cup every morning, feeling its weight in your hand, its darkness grounding the ritual. The thick ceramic keeps warmth longer than thinner ware. Or you might live with it differently. Place it on a shelf to punctuate a room, its angular shadow anchoring a corner, its presence speaking to the care of its making. Some days it sits empty. Some days it holds. Either way, it earns its place. This is the mark of good handcrafted ware: it improves daily life and improves display. It doesn't choose one. It holds both.
Handcrafted in Oxfordshire
This cup is thrown by hand on a wheel at the studio in Oxfordshire. Each piece begins as clay, centered and lifted into form. The tall foot is created deliberately, the walls built thick to carry weight and warmth. The surface is treated and fired in an electric kiln to achieve its colour and feel. No two cups are exactly alike. The variations in thickness, proportion, and the precise angle of the rim are records of the maker's hand. Brooker Ceramics works this way by choice. Transparency about making is part of the studio's philosophy. You own an object shaped by someone who cares about the detail.
Quality & Care
This cup is fired to high temperature, making the stoneware dense and strong. The surface is food-safe and waterproof, ready for daily use: tea, coffee, water, or simply display. It is chip resistant. To care for it, hand-wash gently (a dishwasher is fine if you prefer convenience, though gentle washing extends its life). Avoid thermal shock. Don't move it from boiling water straight to cold. The piece improves with time. Age brings patina. Use it without worry. It was made to be lived with, day after day.
